Zoom AI Companion is a generative AI-powered assistant built directly into the Zoom Workplace platform, designed to reduce the administrative burden of meetings, chat, email, and collaborative work. Its AI note-taking feature automatically captures discussion points, decisions, and action items during Zoom Meetings, removing the need for a dedicated human scribe and allowing all participants — including the host — to remain fully engaged in the conversation. Once a meeting ends, AI Companion generates a structured summary that can be shared with attendees, saved to the cloud, or pushed into downstream tools, so teams leave calls with an immediate record of what was agreed and who owns what. Beyond note-taking, AI Companion is a broader productivity layer across Zoom's product suite: it offers Smart Recording with highlights and chapters, Meeting Summary with next steps, an in-meeting query feature that lets late joiners ask 'what did I miss?', AI-assisted chat compose and thread summaries in Team Chat, email and calendar drafting in Zoom Mail and Calendar, and whiteboard content generation. Because it is native to Zoom, it inherits the platform's enterprise security model, admin controls, data-residency options, and meeting permissions, so organizations can roll it out without introducing a third-party bot that joins as a separate participant. Zoom has taken a notable commercial position with AI Companion: it is included at no additional cost with eligible paid Zoom Workplace plans, which differentiates it from stand-alone meeting AI tools that charge per seat. For IT and compliance teams, administrators can enable or disable AI Companion by account, group, or user, restrict who can start summaries, and control whether transcripts and summaries are retained.
