Zoom AI Companion is the generative AI assistant built natively into the Zoom Workplace platform, designed to reduce the cognitive load of meetings, chats, emails, and asynchronous collaboration. Its flagship capability is AI-powered note taking, which automatically captures the key points of a Zoom Meeting in real time, generates structured summaries, identifies action items with assigned owners, and distributes the recap to participants without anyone having to manually take notes. Because the assistant is woven directly into the Zoom client rather than bolted on as a third-party bot, it joins meetings silently, respects host controls, and operates without the awkwardness of an external participant tile sitting in the gallery view.

The product is positioned for organizations that already standardize on Zoom for video conferencing and want to extract more durable value from the conversations happening across the company. During a meeting, hosts and participants can ask AI Companion to summarize what has been said so far, which is particularly useful for people who join late or step away briefly. After the meeting ends, AI Companion produces a meeting summary that includes a high-level overview, section-by-section breakdowns of topics discussed, and a list of next steps. These summaries are delivered to the host's Zoom account and can be shared via email or directly in Zoom Team Chat. For recorded meetings, AI Companion also offers smart recordings that chapter the video, surface highlights, and identify coaching signals such as talk-time ratios.

Beyond meetings, AI Companion extends across the broader Zoom Workplace suite. In Zoom Mail and Calendar it can draft replies and summarize long email threads. In Zoom Team Chat it can catch users up on missed conversations, compose messages, and translate between languages. In Zoom Phone it transcribes voicemails, summarizes calls, and extracts action items from spoken conversations. For contact-center and revenue teams, AI Companion ties into Zoom Revenue Accelerator and Contact Center to provide deal intelligence and agent assistance.

A key commercial differentiator is that AI Companion is included at no additional cost with paid Zoom Workplace user accounts, which sets it apart from competitors that charge a separate per-seat AI fee. Zoom takes a federated approach to AI, combining its own large language models with models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta to optimize for cost and quality on a per-task basis. Administrators retain granular control over which AI features are enabled, and Zoom states that customer audio, video, chat, and screen-sharing content is not used to train its third-party or proprietary AI models, which is a meaningful posture for regulated industries and security-conscious enterprises.
