Poolside

Poolside is an enterprise AI coding company that trains its own foundation models — Malibu and successors — using a method it calls Reinforcement Learning from Code Execution: models learn from actually running code and observing results, not just from static text. The pitch is that this produces coding models that are more grounded in real behavior than instruct-tuned base models. Poolside packages those models into an end-to-end developer platform that includes an IDE assistant, autonomous agents, code review and knowledge search, and — critically for its target market — deployment inside the customer's own VPC or on-prem, so proprietary source and prompts never leave the enterprise perimeter. It integrates with VS Code and JetBrains and connects to internal ticket systems, docs, and CI. Customers are large regulated organizations — banks, defense contractors, telcos — that can't send code to third-party clouds and need something that fits their existing security and procurement processes.
