Users upload one take of up to 3 minutes with sound, often recorded on a phone, and Cutroom returns a 9:16 MP4 with captions, b-roll, an opening hook and transitions. Wide footage is center-cropped to vertical. The product does not handle long-form videos, podcasts or webinars.
The editing choices are packaged into four templates: Straight cut, Punch, Flow and Native. Each sets the caption theme, hook theme, b-roll placement, pacing, zooms and sound effects. Within that, users can choose from 40 caption themes in seven fonts, 15 hook themes and several b-roll layouts, including full screen, a small card, a bottom band or a tilted card. B-roll is placed on the exact words it illustrates, drawing from the user's own uploaded clips first and then free stock footage. Some templates shorten pauses and remove filler words, and music stays off until enabled.
