Arc Max is the AI-powered feature layer embedded natively in the Arc browser, developed by The Browser Company. Rather than treating AI as a chatbot bolted onto a sidebar, Arc Max weaves artificial intelligence into the fundamental actions users perform every day—searching, reading, organizing tabs, and downloading files.

Core AI Features

Ask on Page lets users highlight text or press a shortcut to ask questions about the content of any webpage. The AI reads the visible page context and returns concise, sourced answers inline, eliminating the need to copy-paste into a separate chat tool. This is particularly useful for long research papers, documentation pages, and news articles. 5-Second Previews activate when hovering over any hyperlink. After a brief pause, a compact AI-generated summary of the linked page appears in a tooltip, helping users decide whether a link is worth clicking before they leave their current page. This feature alone can save significant time during research sessions where dozens of links need triaging. Tidy Tab Titles uses AI to automatically rename open tabs with clean, descriptive titles. Instead of seeing truncated or cryptic page titles like 'Dashboard — App — Settings — v2,' users get readable labels that make tab management practical even with 20 or more tabs open. Tidy Downloads applies the same renaming intelligence to downloaded files. PDFs, images, and documents that would normally arrive with names like 'docfinalv3_REVISED(2).pdf' are automatically given human-readable names based on their content. Instant Links analyzes search queries and, when confidence is high, bypasses the search results page entirely to navigate directly to the most relevant destination. For navigational queries like 'GitHub settings' or 'YouTube trending,' this removes an entire click from the workflow.

Architecture and Privacy

Arc Max processes AI requests through cloud-based models. The Browser Company has stated that page content sent for features like Ask on Page is not stored or used for model training. Users can toggle individual Arc Max features on or off independently from the settings panel, allowing granular control over which AI behaviors are active.

How It Compares to Other AI Browsers

While Brave Leo, Opera Aria, Microsoft Edge Copilot, and Google Chrome's Gemini integration all offer AI chat sidebars, Arc Max takes a fundamentally different design approach. Its AI features are triggered by existing browsing gestures—hovering, searching, opening tabs—rather than requiring users to open a separate panel and type prompts. This makes Arc Max feel less like a chatbot and more like an intelligent upgrade to the browser itself.

Arc Max is available to all Arc browser users at no additional cost as of early 2026. The Arc browser itself is free to download on macOS, Windows, and iOS, with Arc Max features enabled by default on new installations.
