GitHub Copilot in VS Code

GitHub Copilot inside VS Code has moved far beyond autocomplete. The 2026 plans emphasize agent mode, code review, MCP server integrations, Copilot CLI, task delegation, and premium request budgets that vary by plan. Public pricing currently shows Free at $0 with 50 agent or chat requests and 2,000 completions per month, Pro at $10 per user per month with 300 premium requests, and Pro+ at $39 per user per month with 1,500 premium requests. Additional premium requests are priced at $0.04 each. That matters because buyers can finally estimate the cost of heavier agent usage instead of guessing. The MCP support is also strategically important: GitHub explicitly lists MCP server integration in Copilot plans, which makes VS Code a stronger control center for tool-using agents. Copilot’s biggest advantage remains ecosystem fit. If your team already lives in GitHub and VS Code, the surrounding workflow integration is hard to beat. The main caveats are pricing complexity, possible training-data concerns for some users unless they opt out, and the fact that value depends heavily on whether your team really uses the newer agent features rather than basic inline suggestions.
