Onyx

Onyx (formerly known as Danswer) is an open-source, self-hostable enterprise search and AI assistant platform designed to give teams a single conversational interface across every workplace tool. It connects to over 40 sources including Google Drive, Confluence, Notion, Slack, GitHub, Jira, Salesforce, and more, indexes the content, and enables natural-language question answering with citations pointing back to the original source. Onyx is built around modular Assistants — each backed by its own prompt, knowledge subset, and permissions — so a customer-support agent can search your Zendesk knowledge base while an engineering agent draws only from GitHub and Confluence. Because it can be deployed inside your own VPC or on-prem via Docker/Kubernetes, sensitive documents never leave your environment, which makes it attractive to regulated industries. Onyx also ships with an Enterprise Edition featuring SAML/OIDC single sign-on, granular document-level permission sync, usage analytics, and a curator role for custom knowledge maintenance.
