Photon produces good images but isn't primarily competing with Midjourney or DALL-E as a standalone image generator. Its strength is integration with Luma's video pipeline — you generate an image and animate it into video within the same platform. For image-only work, Midjourney generally produces more detailed and stylistically controlled results. Photon makes more sense when you need both stills and motion content.
Each Photon image costs 4 credits. Free gives you limited credits (enough for a handful of images). Lite (3,200 credits) = ~800 images/month. Plus (10,000 credits) = ~2,500 images/month. Unlimited gives unlimited images in relaxed mode. Keep in mind credits are shared with video generation, so actual image capacity depends on how much video you also produce.
Commercial use requires at least the Plus plan ($29.99/month). Free and Lite plans are non-commercial only and include watermarks. Plus and above remove watermarks and grant commercial rights. The Enterprise plan adds the guarantee that your input and output data won't be used for model training.
Yes, the Dream Machine API has its own billing system separate from consumer subscription credits. API pricing is usage-based and billed independently. You can use the consumer app and API simultaneously, but credits don't transfer between them.
