Lexis+ AI is the generative AI legal assistant built by LexisNexis, one of the world's largest legal information providers serving over 1.8 million users across 150+ countries. The platform integrates conversational AI capabilities directly into the Lexis+ ecosystem, giving attorneys, paralegals, and legal researchers the ability to conduct natural-language legal research, draft documents, summarize case law, and analyze contracts—all grounded in LexisNexis's proprietary database of over 80 billion documents including case law, statutes, regulations, secondary sources, and practical guidance.

Unlike standalone AI chatbots, Lexis+ AI delivers hallucination-resistant responses by linking every AI-generated answer to verifiable, citable primary and secondary legal sources within the Lexis+ content library. The platform uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architecture to ensure that outputs are anchored to authoritative legal materials rather than relying solely on general-purpose training data. In internal benchmarks conducted by LexisNexis in 2024, Lexis+ AI demonstrated a significant reduction in hallucinated legal citations compared to general-purpose large language models.

The platform supports multiple core workflows that legal professionals encounter daily. For legal research, users can ask complex legal questions in natural language and receive synthesized answers with direct links to relevant cases, statutes, and regulations. For document drafting, the AI can generate first drafts of legal memos, briefs, client letters, and contract clauses based on jurisdiction-specific precedent. The summarization feature allows users to upload lengthy documents—such as contracts, depositions, or judicial opinions—and receive structured summaries highlighting key provisions, risks, and obligations.

Lexis+ AI also integrates with the broader LexisNexis product suite, including Practical Guidance (a library of practice notes, checklists, and templates covering 20+ legal practice areas), Shepard's Citations Service (for verifying the current validity of legal authorities), and Lex Machina (for litigation analytics covering 15+ federal practice areas and all 50 state court systems). This integration means that AI-generated research can be immediately validated through Shepard's treatment indicators and enriched with litigation outcome data from Lex Machina's database of over 15 million court cases.

The platform is designed for enterprise deployment within law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies. LexisNexis reports that AmLaw 200 firms and Fortune 500 corporate legal teams are among its primary user base. Security and compliance features include SOC 2 Type II certification, data encryption at rest and in transit, and configurable data retention policies that allow organizations to control how their proprietary information is handled by the AI system. User queries and uploaded documents are not used to train the underlying AI models, addressing a key concern for legal professionals handling confidential client information.

Lexis+ AI was officially launched in May 2023 and has received continuous updates through 2025, including expanded jurisdiction coverage, multilingual research capabilities, and enhanced document upload and analysis features. The platform operates as part of the Lexis+ subscription and is available as an add-on module for existing LexisNexis customers.
