Jules

Jules is Google's asynchronous AI coding agent, originally announced from Google Labs and now available as a standalone product at jules.google. Unlike inline assistants such as Copilot or Cursor that work alongside you as you type, Jules takes a 'fire-and-forget' approach: you give it a task, it spins up a private Google Cloud VM, clones the repo, reads the codebase, drafts a plan, executes the work, runs the project's tests, then returns with a diff or pull request for you to review. The agent is powered by a specialised Gemini coding model and can handle multiple parallel tasks across multiple repos, which makes it a natural fit for chipping away at a backlog of small chores, version bumps, dependency upgrades, refactors, and bug fixes while you focus on more strategic work. Jules integrates directly with GitHub, can run as many concurrent tasks as your plan allows, and supports voice tasks plus audio summaries so you can listen to what it did while you context-switch. Pricing tiers cover a free hobby tier with limited daily tasks and paid tiers that unlock more concurrency, longer-running tasks, and bigger context windows. It is part of Google's broader push to give Gemini real agentic capabilities for software engineering, alongside Gemini Code Assist and the in-IDE 'agent mode'.
