Grok

Grok is a conversational AI assistant developed by xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company founded in 2023. Built on the Grok family of large language models, it distinguishes itself from competitors like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot through its real-time integration with the X (formerly Twitter) platform, giving it access to up-to-the-minute posts, trending topics, and public discourse that other AI assistants cannot natively access.

The latest flagship model, Grok 3, was released in February 2025 and demonstrated strong benchmark performance, scoring 93.3% on the MATH-500 mathematical reasoning benchmark and 85.7% on the GPQA Diamond graduate-level science benchmark. The assistant is available in 30+ languages and runs on xAI's Colossus supercomputer cluster, which houses approximately 200,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, making it one of the largest AI training infrastructures in the world.

A defining characteristic of Grok is its personality: the assistant is designed to answer questions with wit, humor, and a willingness to engage with controversial or edgy topics that many competing AI assistants decline. This 'unfiltered' approach, combined with real-time social media awareness, makes Grok particularly suited for users who want current information and candid responses rather than heavily moderated output.

Grok is accessible through the grok.com web application, the dedicated Grok mobile app for iOS and Android, and directly within the X platform. Free-tier users receive a limited number of queries per day using the Grok 3 mini model, while paid subscribers gain access to the full Grok 3 model, higher usage limits, and premium features like DeepSearch and image generation.
