Genesis

Genesis (genesis-world) is the open-source simulation platform from the Genesis-Embodied-AI consortium that has become a serious alternative to Isaac Sim and MuJoCo for general-purpose robotics and embodied AI research. The platform unifies rigid-body, soft-body, fluid, cloth, articulated and granular physics under a single Python-native API, runs massively parallel on GPUs (tens of thousands of environments per device), and ships with a photoreal renderer that supports raytraced sensors and procedural scene generation for sim-to-real transfer. Genesis has been used to train manipulation and locomotion policies, generate synthetic datasets for vision-language-action models, build interactive worlds for embodied LLM agents, and benchmark new robot designs without touching hardware. The project is unusual among physics engines in that it was designed alongside generative AI workflows from day one — there is first-class support for procedurally generating scenes from text prompts, exporting trajectories as VLA training data, and plugging into RL libraries like CleanRL and Stable Baselines3. Genesis is Apache-licensed, has rapidly become one of the most starred robotics repos on GitHub in 2026, and has been adopted by both academic labs and humanoid robotics startups as a default simulator.
