Open-source, self-hostable voice agent platform — the Vapi and Retell alternative driven by MCP.
Dograh is an open-source, self-hostable voice agent platform that positions itself as the source-available alternative to Vapi and Retell. It gives teams the full stack for production phone agents — telephony providers, low-latency STT, LLM routing, TTS, barge-in, call recording, post-call analysis — but ships every layer as swappable modules behind a Docker compose deployment so nothing is locked to a vendor. Dograh's defining design choice is being MCP-native: the agent itself is driven by Model Context Protocol tool calls, so the same agent can be steered by Claude Desktop, OpenAI's Agents SDK, OpenClaw or any other MCP host without rewriting prompts. You bring your own models — OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, vLLM, ElevenLabs, Cartesia, FunASR — and configure routing rules per agent. A visual flow editor handles classic IVR-style branching, while a code-mode lets engineers drop into TypeScript for custom behaviour. Dograh has been picked up by support teams, SDR shops and healthcare scheduling vendors who can't ship audio to closed clouds for compliance reasons. The project is increasingly being talked about as the 'open Vapi' in 2026.
