DocuSign AI, powered by the proprietary Iris AI engine, represents the company's evolution from a pure electronic signature provider into a comprehensive Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) platform. Building on more than two decades of agreement data and over a billion completed transactions, DocuSign Iris applies purpose-built artificial intelligence to every stage of the contract lifecycle — from drafting and negotiation through signing, storage, and post-signature analysis.

At its core, DocuSign Iris is designed to solve what DocuSign calls the "agreement trap": the productivity loss companies experience when contracts and agreements remain locked inside flat documents that systems and teams cannot easily read, search, or act on. Iris extracts structured data from unstructured agreements, identifies obligations, surfaces risk, flags non-standard clauses, and turns static PDFs into queryable, AI-ready records. This unlocks workflows such as automated renewal alerts, obligation tracking, contract benchmarking, and natural-language search across an entire agreement repository.

The platform integrates AI capabilities across multiple DocuSign products. DocuSign Navigator provides a centralized AI-powered repository where agreements are auto-tagged with party names, effective dates, renewal terms, value, and jurisdiction. DocuSign Maestro lets non-technical users build no-code agreement workflows that incorporate AI steps such as review, redaction, and routing. The new AI Contract Agents — announced as part of DocuSign's 2025 IAM roadmap — can autonomously review third-party paper, suggest redlines based on a company's playbook, and escalate exceptions to human reviewers. For sales and procurement teams, AI-Assisted Review compares incoming contracts against approved templates and highlights deviations in seconds rather than hours.

DocuSign also embeds Iris into the signing experience itself. Smart sending suggests recipients and routing order, intelligent field detection automatically places signature, date, and initial fields on uploaded documents, and identity verification uses AI-driven liveness checks and ID document analysis to reduce fraud. For regulated industries, DocuSign maintains compliance with eIDAS, ESIGN, UETA, HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and 21 CFR Part 11.

The product is sold across a tiered SaaS model: Personal and Standard plans cover individuals and small teams who primarily need signing, while Business Pro, Enhanced Plans, and the full IAM suite layer in AI features, advanced workflows, and the Navigator repository. Enterprise customers typically negotiate custom pricing based on envelope volume, seat count, and the breadth of Iris-powered modules deployed. With over 1.6 million paying customers and integrations into Salesforce, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, SAP, Workday, and hundreds of other systems, DocuSign AI is positioned less as a standalone tool and more as the connective tissue across an organization's entire agreement estate.
