Seed Maps are Litmaps' foundational feature, allowing users to input a single research paper and instantly generate an interactive citation network visualization. The map plots related papers on a date-versus-citation axis, showing how research has evolved over time and which papers are most influential. Users can iteratively add papers to expand and refine their maps.

The Discover feature uses AI-powered recommendations to surface the most relevant academic papers faster than traditional database searches. It analyzes the citation network around your existing papers and suggests related works you may have missed, helping researchers find relevant literature that keyword searches alone might not reveal.

Litmaps provides a bird's-eye view of research landscapes through interactive visual maps that plot papers by publication date and citation count. This spatial representation makes it easy to identify landmark papers, trace the development of ideas over time, and understand the structure of a research field at a glance — an approach that is particularly accessible for visual learners.

The Monitor feature provides automatic updates when new papers are published on topics you are tracking.
